The story of Vodafone
Back in 1982, a company called Racal Strategic Radio Ltd. received one of the two cellular telephone network licences in the UK– the other licence holder being then the state-owned giant, British Telecom.
The Racal Vodafone network was launched on January 1st, 1985 – nine days ahead of Cellnet, the network of British Telecom.
Within nine months Vodafone became the leading mobile network in the UK. Next followed a string of mergers and acquisitions that made Vodafone a truly global company and brand.
Today Vodafone is the world’s largest telecommunications company operating in 27 countries and cooperating with partner networks in over 40 countries.
Bite and Vodafone shaping the Baltic market
Bite and Vodafone started their cooperation back in 2003. Since then we have been shaping the market by introducing new services and innovative products.
We launched the first international SIM card in Lithuania and introduced Vodafone World that enabled reliable voice and data roaming in more than 100 countries.
In 2006 Bite Latvija also joined the cooperation and started leading the way in mobile internet services. We introduced Vodafone Mobile Connect, the world renowned mobile internet, and shortly after launching the service we were the first in Latvia to offer internet speed up to 7.2 Mbps.
In 2008 together with Vodafone Bite introduced the unique BlackBerry® e-mail solution and smartphones that had grown amazingly popular all around the world but were not available in Latvia before.
This year we were the first in Latvia to offer prepaid mobile internet and to enable roaming abroad as well. And there is more to come…
